There's no better way to burn off a few calories before you dig into your annual feast with friends and family. Long Island is hosting several turkey trots and races on Thanksgiving Day for every skill level, whether you are a gold medal runner or just want to take a morning jog. If you don't want to run, it's still worth it to get up early and cheer on the participants.
Mattituck-Cutchogue Teachers' Association Turkey Trot
This 5K race starts at 9 am and is open to everyone. T-shirts are available for the first 300 runners that register.
Shoreham-Wading River Thanksgiving Day Races
Runners can choose between a 5K "No Ashley Hill" race at 8 am or a five-mile Challenge Race starts at 8:50 am.
Montauk Run For Fun Turkey Trot
The 38th annual community race starts at 8 am on the Village Green. Contestants can choose between a three or six-mile route.
Nissequogue River State Park Turkey Trot
Bring the kids to this 1K race that is open to children 12 and under. Everyone gets a participation award for taking part in this event that starts at 8:30 am. There is also a 5K event at 9 am for adults.
Smiles Change Lives Turkey Trot
Kids 10 and under will love this annual Fun Run. Everyone gets a turkey headband, and there will be special prizes for the top finishers. The race starts at 8:45 am
