Long Island Charity Events-Doo Wop Classic Oldies Show in Massapequa Doo Wop Oldies Show
Friday, Feb. 28, 2014
7-11 p.m.
Our Lady of Lourdes Church Auditorium
855 Carmens Road, Massapequa Park
Jump, jiggle, and jive to the sounds of some of Long Island's favorite rock-n-roll bands. This classic oldies show is a benefit honoring community service providers Columbus Lodge Order of Sons of Italy in America, the Massapequa Chamber of Commerce, and the Knights of Columbus. Tickets are $35, and include not only marvelous live music, but also food, drinks, and dancing.
Featured bands include Lenny Cocco and the Chimes, who have been around since 1957! Formed in Brooklyn, the original quintet recorded their Billboard hit, “Once in a While” in 1960. They’ve played the Apollo, Chicago’s Regal, and the Howard in Washington, DC. These guys are the real deal, and you won’t want to miss seeing them singing their memorable tunes. Tony V and Time Was will also perform. This is a 7-member group known for their fabulous interpretations of songs by the Beach Boys, the Drifters, the Temptations, and more.
Tommy Mara and the Crests rounds out the show. Mara is known as “the Meatloaf of Doo Wop” so you know you're in for a treat with this crooner’s amazing stylings. There will be a special musical tribute to Johnny Maestro, and expect to hear wonderful covers of ballads, R&B, and swing favorites like “Sixteen Candles,” “Stand By Me,” and “Little Angel.” There might not be a dry eye in the house if he performs his special version of “Over the Rainbow.” For more information or to purchase tickets, call 516-541-3270.
