Set sail on a fun adventure along Stony Brook Harbor this summer when you climb aboard a Discovery Wetland Cruise. The season has just kicked off, and there's no better way to explore the Long Island coast than this tranquil boat ride. The 1.5-hour route leaves from a dock in Stony Brook Harbor and takes you through the 88-acre wetland preserve of West Meadow Creek.
Since 1995, the Ward Melville Heritage Organization has been leading tours through the Long Island wetlands. Step onto a 27-passenger pontoon boat to learn about the history, ecology, and geology of this fascinating ecosystem. Along the way, an expert naturalist will explain what makes wetlands so important to the Long Island environment. You will learn about the Native Americans who first settled here. Keep your eyes peeled for unique wildlife and plant life along the way. Binoculars and a camera are highly recommended!
The cruise season runs through October 20th and tours are scheduled according to the tide tables. Check the website for full details. Boats leave from the WMHO Educational and Cultural Center along Stony Brook Harbor located about 30 minutes from our boutique hotel in Long Island. Rates are $28 for adults, $25 for students and seniors, and $18 for children.
