While we might not think the beach is the place to hang out during wintertime, seals feel right at home during the chilliest months. See these beautiful creatures up close with a Seal Walk at Jones Beach. These unforgettable weekend tours are led by a New York State Parks ranger during February and March.
Strap on a solid pair of hiking boots and cozy up in a good winter jacket for a breathtaking experience along the coast. The tour offers a unique look at four different types of seal species that migrate to Long Island beaches in the winter. Learn about their habits and lifestyle as you watch them frolic in the water or just soak in the sun along the sand. The leisurely tour takes an hour and a half as you walk along the beach. The ranger can point out unique winter birds and answer any questions about Long Island nature along the way.
Jones Beach is less than 30 minutes by car from our boutique hotel in Woodbury, New York. There is a small fee of $4.00 per person and reservations are required to participate. Attendees should meet at Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center. Call 516-780-3295 or 516-785-3614 for more information. Binoculars and a camera are also highly recommended!
